We recently released the iOS version, and now version 0.5.0 with new features is available for both Android and iOS. Here are the details of this update.
Added Login Methods on iOS
Due to Apple’s strict review process, it took longer than expected and didn’t make it into the initial iOS release, but with this update, you can now log in to the iOS version using your Google account or Apple ID.
There are buttons at the bottom of the account creation page, so please try them out.
Shopping List Checkmarks Now Persist Across Pages
Tanuki’s shopping list lets you manage your shopping progress by checking off items, just like a typical to-do list.
However, it’s common to get distracted by other products or visit other pages while shopping. Previously, if you left the shopping list page, your checkmarks would disappear and you’d have to re-check items, which was inconvenient.
Now, checkmarks are preserved even if you navigate to other pages.
Option to Keep Shopping Memos After Purchase
Tanuki has a “Memo” feature to supplement the main shopping list.
Since you can’t register items without barcodes in the shopping list, there was no place to record things like fruits without barcode or errands you want to remember while shopping.
To avoid forcing users to use another app for miscellaneous memos, we implemented this feature so you can manage all your shopping-related info in one place.
Originally, memos were automatically deleted after shopping, but not all tasks or purchases are always completed in one trip (I realized this myself while using it!).
For example, you might need to withdraw cash from an ATM, but since it’s in the opposite direction from the supermarket, you decide to do it on your commute the next day instead.
So, we added an option to keep memos after shopping. If you check the box just above the purchase complete button, your memos will remain after shopping.
We’re still considering the best way to implement this feature, so we’d love to hear your feedback.
Adjusted Ad Display Size
To provide a comfortable shopping app experience, Tanuki keeps ads to a minimum and avoids large, intrusive ads.
However, on smaller smartphones like the iPhone SE, ads were more noticeable and affected the user experience.
We’ve now adjusted ad sizes to better fit smaller screens.
Of course, for those who don’t want to see any ads, we’re also preparing a paid plan that removes ads entirely.
In Closing
This update focused on improving existing features, but we’re planning to add brand new features in future releases. Please look forward to it!
